Dr. (Cand) Arum Widyastuti Perdani, M.Sc., has been awarded the title of Best Leader at the Japan Youth Summit, organized by Youth Break the Boundaries and held from July 1-4, 2024, in Osaka. Arum, a young lecturer in applied culinary arts at Yogyakarta State University, is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in food science with the Indonesian Education Scholarship (BPI). She is actively involved in various international activities, including the Japan Youth Summit.
The Japan Youth Summit 2024 brought together 100 young leaders from 28 countries to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Representing Indonesia, Arum led a team composed of members from Kuwait, Mongolia, Vietnam, Nepal, and Indonesia. Her team presented an initiative focused on disease prevention through functional foods, supporting the SDG of Good Health and Well-Being. As a food scientist, Arum successfully promoted functional foods. Her strong leadership and insightful guidance were pivotal in the project's success, culminating in her award as Best Leader.
"I believe that young people across the globe have innovative ideas for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Let's bring these ideas to the international arena and work together to turn them into reality for a brighter future. The future of our world is in the hands of today's youth," said Arum. She also emphasized that students have significant opportunities to share their ideas in line with their education and that these ideas will be heard globally. Therefore, she encourages all her undergraduate students to actively voice their ideas for the SDGs and contribute to a better future.
